Freezing Feeding Frenzy
Posted by Brenna Malmberg
Dad says hi to his mini-horse, Coal.
Kansas means visiting the animal farm at my parent's house. This is no joke. They have mini potbelly pigs, chickens, geese, peacocks, guinea fowl, llamas, donkeys, goats, dogs and more. On this freezing cold visit, I didn't photograph all the species. If you are looking to see those to, you can see them here>, here or here.
So, I mentioned how it was freezing cold during this feeding frenzy. I wasn't kidding. It was so cold that every animal's water formed a giant ice cube. My dad bashed and kicked container until he could refill them with liquid. It was even so cold that a frozen bucket of ice turned upside down all day didn't even drip out. Yikes.
Dad buzzed around feeding animals, and I snapped pictures of the event. By the end, I couldn't even feel my fingers. Luckily, our next task was to start a fire inside.
If you are ever in Western Kansas and want to see this plethora of animals, I am sure my dad would take a feeding helper. You have to brave it with the sheep and geese, but other than that, it's fun. Thanks for letting me tag along, Dad. I hope it warms up soon — for your and the animals' sake.
Sticks and snow — what a cool place the chickens live.
Dad bangs water containers on the ground to bust up the ice.
Sun shines through the leafless trees.
Obviously, Gavin and the goats aren't friends.
Mr. goat thinks I have food to share.
Please, Brenna, feed me.
He's not giving up.
This little white goat is the cutest.
A mini-pig shares a meal with a chicken — only at my parent's.
That's Coal, not Li'l Sebastian. Mini-horses are pretty cute no matter the name.
This is the inside cat, Poopie or something like that. More French I am told, but I just call it Poopie.
As you can see, I am so helpful when it comes to feeding animals. :P
The pigeons flit around while my dad feeds animals. It's the worst when they slide and scratch against the metal roof.
The big dogs, such as RCA here, want nothing to do with me and my photos.
