Exploring Jamestown

At the Jamestown Settlement Center, you get to explore 17th century Virginia, including a stop at the Powhatan Indian village.

The village consisted of a handful of huts and different shelters for crafts. This one had woven items, such as baskets.

At the center, the time period is reenacted. This local Indian chats with a visitor.

We got to climb aboard the ships and explore the cabins underneath. The Susan Constant (shown), Godspeed and Discovery were their three ships.

On board, a seaman showed people around the ship.

Over at James Fort, chickens roamed around freely.

The colonists had a garden.

This man talked all about the weapons and how they fought the Indians.

Then, we got a test fire!

This man cooked and cleaned. We got to watch him wash out his pots from making food earlier in the day.

Here, the wood worker is chiseling away at a project of his. He was a chatty one.

After our settlement adventure, we drove around the area and walked out to the water.
