Capturing a Moment
Posted by Brenna Malmberg
Taking a photo is one thing. Taking a great photo is another.
Today, I had two photo assignments for the Lincoln Journal Star. One was a party by Milkworks for families, and the other was an Earth Spirit Celebration, which consisted of local vendors. The two events were completely different to take pictures at. The Milkworks party had cute little kids running in sprinklers and dancing to silly songs. The other was a dark room filled with healing beads and card readers. I walked into both with the same job, to capture moments of the events.
Capturing a moment means catching the action and letting the picture tell the story, give emotion and draw its own attention. It is not a posed picture. Plus, to capture a moment, it helps to have good photo composition. That way you don't distract from the action. So now random people in the background, trees poking out of heads or bright lights distracting the viewer.
I hope I captured some moments today. I guess you will have to wait and see what the Journal Star posts. After that, I might make an album on Facebook for some of my work. And Cole said getting a photo viewer wouldn't be too difficult. So hopefully soon I have one of those on my site. I am excited about that. I would like to start a Friday Photo. So Cole will have to teach me how to make that happen.
So basically, stay tuned for more photos!
