Classy Wedding Calligraphy for Days
Posted by Brenna Malmberg
I love how my first batch of wedding calligraphy envelopes turned out.
Tonight I have some pretty, pretty envelopes to share with you. Yay!
First and most excitingly, a wonderful couple in Nebraska will use these envelopes to invite guests to a grand celebration. :) Secondly, I think I can now officially call myself a wedding calligrapher. Sure, I've sent Christmas cards and tons of mail to my Grammie, but never a wedding. I am so thankful for the opportunity; you trusted me with an important part of your big day!
After seeing a couple of calligraphy options, the soon-to-be husband and wife decided on this classy black on white style. I have to give a major shoutout and prop to The Postman's Knock. I used Lindsay's Beth style on the names, and then my own tall/skinny print on the address. (If you are looking to start calligraphy, she just posted an excellent blog of how-tos based on all of her past posts.)
If you are thinking, "Whoa, those lines are all so straight, how does she do that?" Well, I am not magical if that was your conclusion. I drew pencil lines to follow that look similar to the ones you learn letters on in kindergarten. With those lines in place, I penciled on letters so I could focus on only inking during the permanent writing stage — can't have mistakes once I am at that point.
Sunshine streams through the glass as I pencil and erase all afternoon.
Just making my way through the box. On to the next one. On to the next one.
All this writing takes a while, which means I blew through many, many, many episodes of Criminal Minds on Netflix and watched all of The Newsroom on HBO. I count that aspect as a definitely perk of the job.
Once I finished all the inking, I triple-checked the addresses and erased all my pencil lines, resulting in a little tiny eraser by the end of the pile. Next, I packed them up, dropped them in the mailbox and prayed that they arrived safely. Good news: they did!
When you erase hundreds of lines, you go from rectangle eraser to white pebble.
We can't wait to see my work arrive in Sunnyvale. :)
Thanks again to the happy couple for letting me be a part of your big day! It was a great learning experience, and an one that isn't over yet. I have place cards to do once RSVPs arrive. Hooray for more practice and pretty letters.
The black-ink-on-white-envelope look turned out so classy.
Mr. & Mrs. — a phrase I have mastered.
I used the Beth Style from The Postman's Knock on these envelopes.
All the hours of writing and erasing made for a beautiful finished product.
