DIY Ribbon Photo Wall

DIY Ribbon photo wall brightens up my home office.
When we moved into our new apartment, I got the smaller, second bedroom for an office. Yay! I no longer had to work all day in the living room. The separate space meant it needed a personal, Brenna touch. So I Pinterested around and came across the idea to make photo garland. I didn't follow that blog to a tee though.
First, I rounded up some supplies, all which were pretty easy to come by.
- Ribbon (a little wider is better for attaching items)
- Mini clothespins (found at Wal-Mart in the office section)
- 4 by 6 photos (I had an offer from Shutterfly for 101 free prints, so watch for email/Facebook deals if you are interested)
- Paint brushes
- Paint (I used three colors)
- Paper plate (my paint tray)
- Nails (I was planning on Command hooks, but they wouldn't stick to the wall)
Next, I started painting my mini clothespins. I clipped them on the side of a shoe box so I could paint all the visible sides of the pin and then let it dry. My paint takes about an hour to fully dry and I only had one box, so it took me three days to paint all 60 clips. (20 purple, 20 white and 20 black) If you have multiple boxes, you could do it all in one day. Also, depending on the colors you use, you will have to see how well you paint covers. I only did one coat, but you can still see the wood clothespin texture underneath on some.
All the supplies I needed to start the painting process.
I pinned each clothespin along the edge of a Converse shoe box.
When I was done painting, I just left them on the edge of the box to dry.
For the wall, Cole helped me put six nails in the wall (three nails on each side, alternately placed). We tried Command hooks, but they kept peeling off, which made me sad. So the nails allowed for a permanent option. Then, I knotted the end of the ribbon on the first nail and then zig-zagged the ribbon to the last nail. Then I knotted it there and cut the ribbon.
Now all I had to do was clip the different pictures up.
Each photo is clipped up with a painted clothespin.
The best part about this wall is that I can change the photos whenever I want and can hang up other items like tickets or mail. So in a few months, I will probably take Shutterfly up on its free offer. It allows me to hang up all the photos I take. And we all know finding another 101 photos.
Complete wall!
And where do I keep all these art supplies? In these cute photo boxes, of course. They were just the right size and much cheaper than other craft storage options.
