Easter Weekend: Eggs, Hike and Calligraphy

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

Easter Calligraphy - Leaves

For Easter, I practiced my fake calligraphy and ornaments, such as leaves and curls.

Easter weekend is winding down, and I hope everyone got to reflect on our Savior and spend time with friends and family. Our holiday, while low key, included some creative and adventurous activities.

First off, I prepared handmade calligraphy cards for family. A while back I bought some blank, cross-covered cards for $1. Can't go wrong there. Then, I penned in "Happy Easter" along with different flourishes. I sealed up my designs, pleasantly surprised with the different version, which you'll find below. I also applied a script touch on the envelope addresses, along side giant bunny stickers.

On Saturday, Cole and I took advantage of the National Park Service's free day and hiked the South River Falls Trail. Thankfully, we took the shorter, 3-mile version. Lots of other people had the same idea as us this weekend. Lots of families with kids and puppies hit the trail that leads to a waterfall overlook. Of course, we didn't just look over the side. We tip-toed down a steep, rocky cliff to the base of the waterfall. We got to stand right next to the 83-foot fall. No wading though. Brrr. Then, we saw other hikers coming from the other direction and found the real trail that led back out of waterfall base. We trudged back uphill. Today, my legs are reminding me that it was all uphill from there.

I survived the hike down to the waterfall. We took a shortcut.

Happy hikers.

Now back to creativeness. We purchased a 97 cent, Walmart egg coloring kit. Safe to say it didn't produce 24k eggs like the box suggested. Plus, painting is much for difficult than the regular dying process, like we did last year. We did the best with what we had though. But, I don't think we will buy that kit again.

Cole made a really pretty purple one.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Happy Easter.
