This weekend was Funday Saturday because of the encroaching bad weather caused by Hurricane Sandy. Don't worry too much, we are pretty far inland and will experience rain and high winds, but nothing like on the coast. But this will be our first hurricane!

Around here the leaves have been shifting, much slower than they ever did in Kansas. Plus, Virginia has an abundance of trees. We took a drive west of Charlottesville to visit an orchard and take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway to enjoy the fall scenery before it disappeared. The high hurricane winds won't help falling leaves.

We went to the Chiles Peach Orchard in Crozet, Va., to pick apples and grab some pumpkins to carve.

This close to Halloween, only huge pumpkins were left. We have two giant pumpkins ready to be carved sitting in the living room.

Cole found a gross slug on his pumpkin.

While we were heading to the mountains, we came across the Mirador house. It was quite big and fancy. It was the girlhood home of Nancy Witcher Astor, the first woman to sit as a Member of Parliament in the British House of Commons.
