Welcome to March! For me, the word March is followed by madness. To celebrate this great month of basketball, I decided to try my hand at watercolor and create a simple Kansas shape.
I got this idea from The Postman's Knock's Facebook post. I didn't branch out too far from the tutorial. I stuck with Kansas, but tried using red and blue for KU. After five attempts, I painted a blue to red fade. I've never used watercolor before, unless kindergarten counts, so I had a little trial and error. Too much paint the first time; too many strokes the next. But, eventually, I made a clean sweep and created a pretty Rock Chalk watercolor.
I finished it off with some watercolor calligraphy — again a first. It blobbed here and ran out there, but in the end I created some simple, light blue words to root on my Jayhawks.
Now I share the Jayhawks and Kansas with you. You can download either the Rock Chalk desktop or phone background for free. But, download the desktop version right now; it has a March 2015 calendar on it. The phone background can be used for as long as you want.
Enjoy and let's go, Jayhawks!

I made a little mess on my desk while figuring out watercolors.
After a few attempts, I ended up with a presentable Kansas watercolor.
I even tested calligraphy and watercolor.
I can't wait to try more watercolor projects.
