Green Speak Monday: Logo Dictionary
Posted by Brenna Malmberg
Have you ever wondered what all those environmental logos mean on products you use every day? From food to electronics, there is probably a green seal of approval for it, but in the end, what does that seal really mean?
Sierra Clubposted a chart of different logos and what they mean: a green logo dictionary, in a way.
The list includes the USDA Organic logo, the cute, little Rainforest Alliance seal and the Watersense label. Check out all nine that by visiting Logo Land.
Besides those, there are also organizations that offer green approvals, such as Green America Business Approval, the Good Housekeeping Green Seal and even the Home Depot has a seal.
All of the different seals can be confusing. They can also be misleading. Remember, just because it has an organic or eco-friendly seal on it doesn't mean it the company or certification program doesn't have loop holes or issues. Such as the USDA Organic seal. Farmers can still use certain pesticides and still get the seal. So definitely check out the other logos before you believe the simple message the logo says. They might not be as green as you think.
