More Visitors in California

While not ideal, we could at least see the bridge isn't of orange fog.
To cap off a great summer in California, we had two more visitors. Kady, and her friend Kimber hopped on a plane from Omaha to San Fran to spend a week in the Bay Area. Cole and I mostly had to work during the week, but we still managed to sneak in a little fun with them.
On Saturday, we drove south to the Savannah-Chanelle Winery thanks for Yelp review in my inbox. We sipped wine with piano music playing in the background and strolled the villa grounds. I still don't like wine, but that doesn't mean it wasn't pretty.
I know, not grape vines, but this tree was pretty at the Savannah-Chanelle Winery.
After that, we drove to take a look at Stanford. I actually took a tour last weekend, just have't got a chance to blog about it. So ... this little iPhone picture will have to do. It's a pristine campus with amazing opportunities.
We stopped by Stanford after the winery.
Then, Sunday was the intenser fun day. We started it off by munching down sandwiches and bottled beverages. It's a cute place, mostly because of Mr. Pickle and the fact that the Chubby Pickle exists back in Phillipsburg. (Honestly, I as shocked that place had a website.)
Before a long day of walking, we filled up at Mr. Pickles.
After a bunch of traffic through the city, we wound our way to Muir Woods National Monument. We decided Kady and Kimber needed to see redwoods while they were here, even though we had been to Portola Redwoods State Park and Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve (which I need to post still ... ).
Welcome to Muir Woods National Monument — get ready for redwoods.
These California cost redwoods stretch up high to the sun.
Amongst the tall trees, you can see fallen ones, including one the fallen "walk-through" tree that stretched 225 feet.
We walked the Main Trail Loop, which took through 2 miles of dense wood along a nice trail. We didn't have time to go on any of the other excursions, but I saved my map so next time we can.
The last significant fire took place 200 years ago in Muir Woods, but you can see the black residue left from past burns.
Brother-sister climbing adventures.
Just climbing inside of trees.
So pretty and so tall they are.
Of course, he is up climbing on things.
The sun sprinkles through the trees.
I follow Kimber, Kady and Cole along the Main Trail Loop.
Just us.
We couldn't spend tons of time there because we had to get walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. That's been on my list since weekend one.
After big nature, we head to see big human feats.
We drove up to the north viewpoint first while waiting for some of the people to clear out. Unfortunately, fog covered the bridge. Geez, fog.
Before walking across, we tried to see the bridge from atop the hill.
Eventually, we ended up at the base of the bridge on the north side. This required a 20-minute trek up the hill to the pedestrian path. But, we made it!
I was determined to walk all 1.7 miles across, otherwise, I only walk on, not across it. The wind blew and the sun set, making it chilly, but we made it all the way across. It amazing how steady the bridge is, even with all the cars flying by. The massive cables really area tough.
From the North side down at the base, we could see the length of the bridge.
Cole and I trying not to get blown away on the bridge.
Scenic little place.
Cole wanted to climb on top of the big one; I opt for the littlest one.
Looking out over the water to Angel Island.
Kady and Kimber brace for the long walk across the bridge.
Bridge Patrol zooms along in his little mobile.
Cole grabs the huge cables.
Big cables to hold up a big bridge.
Hondie's down at the bottom waiting for us to return.
We made it all 1.7 miles across.
Alcatraz Island glows in the sunset.
I touched the cable, note the dirty finger tips.
Thanks for visiting, Kady and Kimber! We hope you had fun see a little bit of SF with us. :) Now I have to get to posting the remainder of the Cali pictures I've been hoarding on my computer this week before we head back east.
The sun is starting to set as we make it to the south side.
