Never Missed a Class
Posted by Brenna Long
I walked down the hill with my campus map in hand. I was off to my first class at the University of Kansas. I left about 30 minutes too early, but I didn’t want to be late for my first day. My class was Pre 101. A class where I would learn about all the resources on campus and how to embrace KU. That was August of 2007.
Yesterday, I woke up a little late, pulled on some clothes and dashed down the hill for my last day of class. My final class was magazine publishing, where we just presented our finished magazines – nothing too stressful. After the short class, I walked out of the journalism building done with college classes.
After four years, (yes, I will graduate in four) I have come to the point where I am done with taking classes and learning and would like to actually use my degree. While a degree and a sense of purpose are great things, a lot of college students can claim those facts and feelings.
But I did something at KU most college students, wouldn’t even dream of doing. While other students took naps through class or went home early for the weekend, I was there, sitting in my seat every day. I never missed a class in college. Not even one. I will be honest, I was late once at KU, and really late once in Italy, but I still never missed.
I have been told many times that I am not a normal college student because of it, but I am OK with that. I have never met anyone else who has never missed a class. If that is you, leave me a comment. We can be weird college students together.
I paid for college, and I was going to go to every class to learn what I was suppose to. Another benefit for me is that I learn by listening and taking notes, exactly what class usually is.
I don’t think any less of you if you miss class, trust me Cole missed his fair share. :) But I am all done with college classes now. Just one last final before I head out the next adventure.
