Overblessified Thursday: Kansas Basketball

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

Any Jayhawk is overblessified. Fact. Every March, madness ensues, and our team has a stake in it more often than not. This year, the Jayhawks are continuing the longest current consecutive appearances streak, 23, as they practice in St. Louis this week.

Tomorrow night, Kansas takes on NC State. They haven't been to the tournament since 2006, but with 22 appearances, they aren't completely new to the court. Thankfully, we have a coach who has been in the tournament 14 times and has impressed people with our current team.

As I watch the other teams, I eagerly await the Jayhawks. Sadly, I won't be there in person to turn them on like some of my friends (you lucky Hawks). But, I will be hunched over my computer watching each shot and chanting "defense" and "let's go KU" as if I was court side. I try to stay calm, but that just isn't possible. When you enter college and attend basketball games at the best arena in the country, you get spoiled and obsessive. You get up before the sun comes up to camp and cheer as you lugg your tired body back up the hill.

I cheered on the 2007-2008 team, and I will be doing the same this weekend. How can you not cheer on a team who has been to the tournament as long as I have been alive. Sure, they are different players, but it's KU: the history, the legends, the championships, the tradition.
