Overblessified Thursday: Lawrence Pump-fake Piggies
Posted by Brenna Malmberg
Meet the fierce, very pink Lawrence Pump-fake Piggies! Janel took me up on my offer, and she hired me as her fantasy basketball team's graphic designer and brand manager. (May be a self-proclaimed title.)
Before the formation of the Pump-fake Piggies, I was given some criteria.
- 1. Make it cute.
Yep, that was the whole list. So I went to work using my research skills to find out a little more about the team I was about to represent with cuteness. She has a decent lineup with names I recognize. The other leagues branched out past my name knowledge a little more. She drafted Wade, Melo, Griffin and Bosh. What do I know about them...umm...they are headline worthy...Wade posed for the Olympic Vogue...Jay really wants to trade for Melo...Griffin eats at Subway...I see Bosh when Cole watches the Heat play. A lot of facts that detour from their actual skills.
So I gave up on the basketball front for a minute and went in the pig direction. Janel LOVES pigs. The last time I saw her with a pig she squealed in delight (can't say the little piglet had the same experience). So I knew her team required a pig theme. (Before this logo, she had a cute pig in red boots as her picture.) I tried pig, hog, swine, but in the end piggie was the best fit.
No brainer on the location. She went to KU, the home of basketball, and she still lives there. Now Lawrence has another basketball team.
With all those details decided, it was back to the court. Alliterations favor toward cute so I looked for "p" words on Wiki's basketball move site (high-level research, I know). Pass, putback and pivot were there, but pump-fake had the best ring. Now to find out if her people were even good at the move. Yahoo answers told me Wade could perform the maneuver better than average, so I ran it by the experts. Cole and Jay both told me Wade could pump-fake with the best of them, and I knew the Pump-fake Piggies was destiny.
How does all of this bless me on my overblessified blog day? Well, I really like designing and helping other people out, even if it really serves little purpose in the end. When Janel let me have creative reign over her team, I was blessed because I got to turn on my creative juices and practice my design skills. I have a hard time working on my craft when I am just making pretend situations up. The creative tick that sits in my brain doesn't tock unless forward movement is going to happen. I am one of those people who dwells on an idea and carries it around all day until the perfect ideas hits me. Then, I go to work making it happen. That happened last night, and thus we all have the Pump-fake Piggies to enjoy.
So, thanks Janel for the creative reign and for playing in our fantasy league. Without you, I'd be the only girl dribbling around against all these non-creative, lacking-style boy teams. Ewww.
They have to wear something. Might as well look great.
Right now, here is her lineup. Tough and pink. So tough they will make you cry wee wee wee all the way home.
I imagine the teams she beats will sound more like this.
Her team may also cry wee wee wee. This is how I picture them celebrating on the way home.
