Photo Friday: Creative Carving
Posted by Brenna Malmberg
Our jack-o'lanterns have started to wilt, but thankfully pictures do not.
Last week Cole and I both carved pumpkins from his grandparents. (Thanks by the way.) Cole decided to branch out and use a stencil this year. He had never punched the little holes and follow the pattern with his knife. While Darth Maul, some Star Wars character, looks pretty spooky, it took him a fair amount of time to get the frightening look.
Mine was much simpler. I was going to do a complicated design, but my pumpkin was short and squatty, so I went with a simple, gymnast silhouette. Then, while I was waiting for Cole, I used the scraper tool to place a beam under my leaping gymnast. By scraping, I just removed layers of the pumpkin without puncturing all the way through.
We didn't win the contest at our apartment complex, but I say they turned out pretty all right.

Great looking masterpiece pumpkins. I am impressed!
