Photo Friday: Summer Flashback to Portola Redwoods State Park
Posted by Brenna Malmberg
Redwoods are pretty.
Don't mind me, I'm just here eating my free 7-Eleven Twix ice cream bar so I can take my antibiotics. Woo, I'm a cool cat, I know. Regardless, I have a pile of images from the summer that never made an appearance in proximity to their actual happening. Just because I didn't post them earlier doesn't mean I don't have a fondness for them, which is why I am bringing them back into my view.
First stop on the summer flashback: Portola Redwoods State Park. This stop created a first: hiking in redwoods (a Cali must). Getting to the location proved winding and dangerous. Betsy (our GPS) decided we were going to take Old La Honda Road. If your GPS every says, "Turn left on Old La Honda Road," don't. I repeat, do not. It spans barely one lane with bicycles trudging up the steep, curvy incline. Did I mention there is also oncoming traffic. Yikes. We were so glad to be off that road. It's not like the rest of the roads where spacious and straight, but better.
At the park, we grabbed a map and set out on the trail. Dense forst and shaded paths circled us all the way back to the car and then to a "waterfall." I say "waterfall" because it as like a dripping faucet compared to our Easter hike.
Now that you're really excited, enjoy the sights of Portola Redwoods State Park.
Of course, the trail starts with up.
Cole explores up on a log.
Whoa. Those trees are tall.
To the right, to the right.
More beautiful, tall trees.
The top! With all these trees, you can't see much.
The tip-toe falls splash into a little pool of water.
Rock climbing at the waterfall.
Hi, up there.
Stay tuned for more summer flashbacks.
