Photo Friday: When the Lights Go Out

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

When you gaze around our apartment complex, little lights dazzle again 8 inches of slush snow piled around the parking lot. Then you turn around. Our building doesn't have the same sparkle. The window don't glimmer with the same glow. Oh yeah, that's right, when the power went out Wednesday, it didn't come back on the same day for us like it did for those around us.

This is what our apartment looks like. Black.

It's now Friday night. We are held up in the law school, which has power and heat — two great things. Earlier this week, I crowded into Panera for Internet, sat cross-legged in the car in front of FedEx for a connection, and wandered downtown to a dark corner of the public library just to move files. Thankfully, the law school Internet started connecting correctly to my computer last night so I could manage to get something sort of done.

When I chatted to Janel that a small power outage on Wednesday morning wouldn't be so bad, I forgot give the power gods a timeframe. Fingers crossed that tonight is the night electricity is restored. Otherwise, it's another late-night, law school hangout followed by freezing covers.
