Resurrection Day

It’s not about eggs or bunnies, even though those are fun and cute. Today, the holiday we know as Easter, is about Jesus rising to sit at the right hand of God. I’ve heard the story of Jesus since I was a child, but I spent the morning reading all four gospel accounts of the resurrection. To read through them yourself, check out Matthew 28:1-10, Mark 16:1-11, Luke 24:1-12 and John 20:1-18.
As I read through, I picked up information I knew and reminded myself of what Jesus did on the cross, how the disciples reacted and what his resurrection means for us. "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here. He has risen! Remember how he told you while he was still with you in Galilee: The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again." – Luke 24:5-7.
This made me think. So what do I do now? What am I suppose to do now that Jesus rose from the dead? Well, I kept reading in Matthew. The Great Commission comes at the end of the chapter. So right after Jesus had just conquered the tomb, he tells his disciples about his authority on heaven and on earth. He commands them to go make disciples of all nations. Then he commands them to teach them to obey everything he has commanded to them. This means teaching these people to go make disciples of all nations as well.
For me to be a Christian all the way over here in the United States, the disciples and the disciples they made continued passing Jesus’s commands to all nations. So I am commanded to do the same. I can’t do it on my own though, and Jesus knew that. He told me he would always be by my side. "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." – Matthew 28:20. He reminds me again in Mark 16:20 that he is working with me.
