Saying No
Posted by Brenna Malmberg
Sometimes the hardest thing is saying no. Even when all the signs around you point to no, it is still the hardest to actually say it.
Today I had to turn down two jobs. I know, crazy to do in these times, especially right out of college. But they weren't right for me or for us right now. One required me to be gone traveling the country 10 to 15 days a month. I would go, interview, take photos, and return to write a story, mostly about construction types of fields. The other job was working all evening and weekends taking photos of church families and my pay was based off of how many of my photos I sold.
So while I would make more with a steady job like that, instead of all my freelancing, I would be gone almost all the time Cole was home, and I wasn't exactly getting experience in my field of interest.
Some of you may be shaking your head at that decision, and that is okay. It wasn't your life to decide. That leaves me taking photos, writing and designing, plus a little gymnastics. And sorry Maggie, that my photo job for the Lincoln paper will keep me from your swim meet. Cole will have to tell me all about it.
I will keep you updated on my published work.
