Trip to Washington D.C. and the Postal Museum

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

The Naional Postal Museum is right next to Union Station.

The Naional Postal Museum tells the story of mail through the ages and lets you interact with it.

Before the holidays and law school finals begin, we drove off to check out Washington, D.C., again. Because I love mail (read about it here if you missed why), I had been asking to check out the National Postal Museum. Definitely not lame, but definitely unpopulated. I am pretty sure people skip the Postal Museum to see other sights such as the Library of Congress, National Air and Space Museum and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

The Postal Museum had lots of ways to interact with the history of the mail, such as stamping postcard and sorting mail.

Cole plays the zip code sorting game.

Owney the mail dog and all of his medals.

Union Station is decorated for the holidays.

Me loving stamps.

After the Postal Museum, we dashed over to the Library of Congress before it closed. Pictures aren't allowed inside much of the space, but we did see the enormous viewing room, the Gutenburg Bible and Thomas Jefferson's book collection.

The Library of Congress is full of tons of interesting stuff.

After that, we walked to all the monuments. The sunny day turned into a chilly night, but it was still work it. View the photo albums: Washington D.C. by Day and Washington D.C. by Night.
