Worldly Wednesday: Want to Exchange Flat Stanleys?
Posted by Brenna Malmberg
Anyone remember Flat Stanley? You know, the little flat person who flies through the mail and reports back adventures.
Flat Stanley is ready for adventures!
You might have done it in elementary school; I know I did! I packaged up my Flat Brenna and sent it to my Grammie in North Platte, Neb. I honestly don't know what she even sent me back, I just fondly remember sending and receiving the adventurous little Brenna mail.
Now slightly old, but no less young at heart, and a super fan of mail, I am looking to send a Flat Brenna out into the world. So, if you are interested in playing along, I would be happy to take your Flat Self on adventures here in Charlottesville and the surrounding area. I love pictures and adventures and mail. Does this project get any cooler?
Actually, yes, it gets cooler. The Flat Stanley Project started in 1995 to benefit children's literacy. So not only are kids learning to use the postal system and gain worldly knowledge, they boost their reading skills. That's probably why we did back in the day at school. And it turns out, if you log in on the Flat Stanley site, you can exchange letters with mostly classrooms around the world. I decided to stay out of that realm because most of the people on the message board were looking for other classrooms, of which I am not. (Fun fact: I do attend class every day, just not the right kind of class.).
So, I am serious. I would like to send some Flat Brennas. You can reach me on Facebook, Twitter or by email. Really, I am pretty reachable.
After you contact me, we can work out the details such as if you want to send or receive, if you want to have emailed or mailed photos, etc. I am flexible in all areas of the project.
If you don't have the creative bug to send a Flat Self, there are plenty of templates to download and cut out.
Flat Stanley templates to download.
I look forward to hearing from you soon! Oh, and to be forewarned, I will probably post about these on my blog. You know, it wouldn't be me otherwise.
Janel
Send me a Flat Brenna! I want to send you a Flat Janel, but I will have to create one. When I get that done I have your address, so she'll be on her way. :)
