President James Monroe's Highland

President James Monroe bought the land for Highland in 1793. This little house was turned from slave quarters into a guest house because Monroe had so many guests.	The home was finished in 1799, and Monroe and his family lived here for 24 years.	Like back in Monroe's day, a garden supplies flowers, herbs and vegetables for the estate.
