More cacti. George Washington actually pushed to have the garden so our country could promote and show the importance of plants.
Inside the botanic garden, cacti thrive in the desert zone. The garden has been in its location since 1933.
My dad especially like cacti.
Lots of little leaves. The garden has the following sections: Garden Court, Jungle, Plant Adaptations, garden Primeval, Hawaii, World Deserts, Medicinal Plants, Orchids, Plant Exploration, Rare and Endangered Species, Southern Exposure (seasonally), Children's Garden (seasonally), "Plants in Culture" in the West Gallery and temporary exhibits in the East Gallery.
Little spines protrude from the leaf edges. More than 65,000 live in the garden.
Inside the main doors, blooms burst from all angles. At the garden, they practice sustainable practices such as composting and and rainscaping.
The garden has an entire orchid section. Lots of them were purple!
Many of the orchids had a funny shape, like this one with a petal bowl.
A pineapple grows from the ground. Maybe SpongeBob lives in that one.
If you can't make it to the botanic garden in Washington D.C., you can take a virtual tour.
Outside in the sunshine, purple balls of petals attract lots of insects.
