Trivia Tuesday: Sport Called Lacrosse

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

Last week as you know, I attended my first lacrosse game. So this week, I decided to learn more about the sport, and maybe you will, too. If you have played before, well, you will probably ace this.

1. How many people from each team are on the field at a time during a field lacrosse game?
2. What do players use to toss a lacrosse ball?
3. The goal sits inside a circle called a what?
4. Where was the first collegiate lacrosse program started?
5. Who first documented the sport?
6. In 1856, William George Beers founded the Montreal Lacrosse Club. What was his profession?
7. How many NCAA Division I lacrosse teams are there?
8. Who is ranked No. 1 on the US Lacrosse Intercollegiate Associates poll as of Feb. 18, 2013?
9. The University of Virginia men's lacrosse team is pretty good. When was the last time they won the championship?
10. What's a lacrosse ball made of?

Comment below on how you did! Thanks. . . .

Green Speak Monday: The Disappearing Packaging

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

A few weeks ago, Cole asked me what happened to the clear packaging on dishwasher soap pods. It disappears. Wouldn't it be nice if other things just disappeared like that.

Then, I stumbled upon a master's thesis project by Pratt Institute Student Aaron Mickelson called The Disappearing Package. . . .

Facebooking My Homies with Graph Search

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

Ready to search your friends, or homies, on Facebook in a new, while slightly invasive, way? You are in luck. Sign up for Facebook's Graph Search. Scroll to the bottom of that webpage and sign up! I did earlier this week.

While it gives you useful paths for your searches, such as starting a hiking club or seeing who has traveled to the same destinations as you. But honestly, I think most of the use will be weird or just pointless. I did some test run searches, and basically, I had no goal in mind. Maybe you will. . . .

First Lacrosse Game

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

My first lacrosse game.

On Tuesday, Feb. 19, Cole and I attended our first lacrosse game. Before going, I honestly knew zero about the sport. Now after watching a game, I am still not sure I know anything. It was a mix of football, soccer and basketball from my point of view.

Apparently, UVA is pretty good at lacrosse. So I suppose if I am going to go, it might as well be to see a good team. Last night they played Virginia Military Institute. I think it is fair to say, they aren't super at lacrosse. The final score was 18-4, UVA winning. . . .

Green Speak Monday: Steve "the Green Man" Nash

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

Steve Nash assists, on and off the court. This year, he passed 10,000 assists and as of today has 10,137. Off the court, you can't measure his assists in the same way, but the planet and communities can feel it. He's a green kind of guy who promotes recycling, lowering fossil fuel usage and conserving water.

One eco-friendly push he has been a part of is recycling used phones. You've probably seen this commercial of my all-star point guard. . . .
